Through of series of unconventional tactics and clever thinking, Aubrey and his men are able to outwit and defeat their French opponents time and time again. While the central protagonist may be fictional, the action that unfolds comes closer to the real thing than any other film in its sub-genre. And if you haven’t, hopefully they give you some small measure of understanding for what those who have fought have been through.We follow British Captain Jack Aubrey (played by Russel Crowe) and the crew of the HMS Surprise as they're ordered to track down and eliminate the French privateer Archeron off the coasts of South America. (We did not, however, count Star Wars – go cry into your Wookiee dolls, nerds.) If you’ve ever been on the frontlines yourself, these movies will resonate. As a result, this list runs the gamut, from depictions of very real conflicts, including both World Wars, Vietnam and the so-called ‘War on Terror’, to fictional battles occurring on faraway planets.
